A Quiet Trace

I am aware that our time is limited. We will never know when and how our life will end.

Because of that—and because I have things I cannot say or publish while I’m still around—I created a dead-man switch to automatically publish messages and notes that might be useful to someone.

Some of the messages are personal. Some are more general. There are also notes I think others could benefit from, but I’m too shy to share them now.

To make this work, I created two repositories in my GitHub account: dms and legacy.

  • The dms repo contains a GitHub Actions workflow that acts as a trigger. If I stop resetting it, it assumes something has happened to me. When that happens, it will fetch and publish my private messages from a backup.
  • The legacy repo is a placeholder site. It shows a simple redirect page that will be replaced by my final notes if the switch is triggered.

For more technical details, read each repository’s README.

The legacy site will be available at legacy.risangbaskoro.com. For now, that URL just links back to this page.

The actual messages are kept in a private location. They are not part of these repositories. They will only be revealed if the switch activates.

This system is not perfect, but it’s a start—something to help me leave a trace, just in case.

I don’t know who will eventually read these messages—if anyone does. But building this switch gives me a strange sense of peace. Like leaving a small light on, just in case someone needs to find their way.

Think of this like a time capsule. A quiet way for my thoughts to carry on—even if I’m no longer here to speak them.

Some of what I’ve written is meant for particular people. Some of it is meant for myself. These are things I never had the courage or timing to say, but I still want them to be heard.

By setting this up, I’m leaving a small trace behind. Just in case it matters to someone.

I said “just in case” too many times lol
